Hop to the Top anchor name = #innerloop-studios Innerloop Studios Defunct

Innerloop Studios (commonly abbreviated to Innerloop) was a Norwegian video game developer operating from 1996 to 2003. The company was founded as Innerloop Technologies in May 1996 by a group of ex-employees of the Oslo-based video game company Funcom. After entering into a partnership with the video game developer and publisher Eidos Interactive, Innerloop merged with DiMaga Studios in 1997 and changed its name to Innerloop Studios to reflect the merger. In the fall of 2000, Swedish electronic entertainment company Vision Park acquired the studio. In 2002, Innerloop once again became an independent company before shutting its doors in June 2003. The company was unable to make funds to create future titles,so they finally decided to shut down the studio. Company staff numbers ranged between 15 and 25 at various times throughout the company's existence. Innerloop was widely known for its graphics technology, first on display in the flight simulator JSF - Joint Strike Fighter. With the release of Project I.G.I.: I'm Going In in December 2000, the exclusion of being able to save the game within a level created controversy amongst its fans. Except the sports game Sega Extreme Sports for Sega Dreamcast, Innerloop chose to develop exclusively for the PC platform. Co-founder Henning Rokling was the company's Managing Director until the studio shut down its operations in 2003. In addition to working with Eidos Interactive, Innerloop also worked with InfogramesSegaEmpire Interactive and Codemasters. Innerloop Studios was founded in May 1996 and currently employs 18 people working hard to complete "IGI2 - Covert Strike" for PC CD-ROM. Innerloop's offices are located in downtown Oslo, next to Norway's Parliament building and the busy shopping street Karl Johan. Our intention has always been to create highly original titles. The first game released from Innerloop was the award-winning flight-simulation "JSF - Joint Strike Fighter" from December 1997. In December 2000 we released a sports-title called "Extreme Sports" and the 3d-action game "Project IGI". The children's game "Jul I Blåfjell" was released in November 2001, but only on the Norwegian market. Innerloop is part of the Scandinavian publishing group PanVision - a division of Swedish company KF Media.

Hop to the Top anchor name = #insomniac-games-inc Insomniac Games Inc.

Insomniac Games, Inc. is an American video game developer whose corporate headquarters is located in Burbank, California. It was founded in 1994 by Ted Price as "Xtreme Software", and was renamed "Insomniac Games" a year later. It has released titles for the PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One video game consoles. The company's first project was Disruptor, for the first PlayStation console, whose poor sales almost led to the company's bankruptcy. Insomniac's next project was Spyro the Dragon, a successful video game that spawned two sequels within two years. Insomniac then developed a new franchise, Ratchet & Clank, for the PlayStation 2. The company also developed the Resistance series for the PlayStation 3, and released its first multi-platform game, Fuse in 2013. The company also worked with Microsoft Studios on 2014's Sunset Overdrive. The company's current projects include an underwater Metroidvania game called Song of the Deep, an Oculus Rift action-adventure game titled Edge of Nowhere, and an as-yet untitled Spider-Man game for the PlayStation 4. Insomniac Games has received recognition from critics as an acclaimed video game developer. It was named the twentieth-best video game developer by IGN, and one of the best places to work in America by the Society for Human Resource Management. Insomniac Games has been around since the beginning of 1994 and has quietly built a reputation for developing top-notch games for the Sony PlayStation. Its first game, Disruptor, was released for the PlayStation in 1996 and garnered praise from all corners of the gaming world, including awards for "Best First Person Shooter" and "Sleeper Hit of the Year". Insomniac then created Spyro the Dragon, which is now part of Sony's Greatest Hits collection, and has sold close to 4 million copies worldwide. Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage, its third game and also part of the Greatest Hits program, has now sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide. The first two Spyro titles made the purple dragon a household name around the globe and garnered multiple awards from the press. Now Insomniac is poised to release its biggest game yet - Spyro Year of the Dragon. Insomniac is proud to be a first-party developer for Sony, and since Spyro Year of the Dragon is its last Spyro title, the company is currently working on a brand new, top-secret PS2 title. How did Insomniac get started? Great question! Founded in 1994, Insomniac Games is an independent game developer with studios in Burbank, CA and Durham, NC. Prior to founding Insomniac, CEO/President Ted Price spent a few years as controller of a start-up medical company, where he decided that life in games must be easier. (He was wrong…) Fortunately, he found two very talented programmers, Alex and Brian Hastings, and together they laid the foundation for Insomniac’s first success, Disruptor. So…what has Insomniac done that I may have heard of? Well, in 20+ years, we’ve sold more than 44 million console videogames worldwide. (Not too shabby, right?). Insomniac has produced three of PlayStation’s most recognizable franchises: ResistanceRatchet & Clank and the first three Spyro the Dragon games. Hopefully you’ve heard of them! We’ve spread our wings into multiplatform and mobile development as well. We most recently shipped Sunset Overdrive on the Xbox One in 2014, and a new version of Outernauts for iOS/Android. Currently we are re-imagining the original Ratchet & Clank, built from the ground up for PS4. We’re also developing our very first VR game, Edge of Nowhere, for the Oculus Rift, and a metroidvania-style action-adventure Song of the Deep, for PC/PS4/Xbox One. OK, I get it. So how do you do it? As of 2016, Insomniac Games has grown to approximately 200 hard-working, creative souls and remains completely independent. As an independent studio, we create and develop the kind of games that we’d like to play. It also means we follow our own production plan that allows us to stagger development so that we have smaller teams, time to visualize a game in pre-production and longer timelines to add final polish. Hmm…that sounds pretty cool. Any job openings? We’re always looking for bright minds to join our team. Check out our Careers page to learn more and apply either for our California or North Carolina studio!

The IGDA focuses on providing value to its members in the following areas: Building community among members to facilitate communication, support and an understanding of our common goals Providing a voice for the community, including representing game developers on issues of public debate Promoting relevant education and training for the next generation of game developers as well as professionals in the industry today Promotion of the art form of games, including increasing artistic and financial recognition for developers Business services, including financial, legal and strategic planning resources for individual developers and development companies International Game Developers Association (IGDA) is the professional association for over 12,000 video and computer game developers worldwide. It is incorporated in the United States as a non-profit organization. Its stated mission is "To advance the careers and enhance the lives of game developers by connecting members with their peers, promoting professional development, and advocating on issues that affect the developer community." In recognition of the wide-ranging, multidisciplinary nature of interactive entertainment, there are supposedly no barriers to entry. The IGDA was founded in 1994 by Ernest W. Adams and was initially known as the Computer Game Developers Association (CGDA). Modeled after the Association for Computing Machinery, Adams envisioned the organization to support the careers and interests of individual developers, as opposed to being a trade organization, or an advocacy group for companies. The need for a professional association for game developers was not apparent until the congressional hearings surrounding Mortal Kombat and other video game legislation became common in the 1990s. With legislation affecting the game development industry, the IGDA developed into a more organized voice for computer game developers as it merged with the Computer Entertainment Developers Association and grew from 300 members to over 12,000 members the next fifteen years. In December 2012, Kate Edwards was appointed executive director after Gordon Bellamy, the previous executive director, moved on from the position in July of that year to join Tencent. The association as of July 2014 has been working with the FBI to deal with the on-line harassment of developers; Kate Edwards had been approached by the bureau at San Diego Comic-Con International.
